Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across northern Michigan until 7 a.m. Thursday, with snow, gusty winds, and hazardous road conditions expected to impact travel.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of up to one inch are anticipated across various regions, including Emmet, Grand Traverse, Alpena, and Chippewa counties. Winds are forecasted to gust as high as 45 mph, leading to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous overnight as standing water freezes. The hazardous conditions could create challenges for the Thursday morning commute. Additionally, strong winds may bring down tree branches, adding to travel risks.

Authorities advise residents to exercise caution while driving, reduce speeds, and allow extra time for travel. Pedestrians are also urged to watch for icy surfaces on sidewalks and driveways.

Further north, in Luce and Northern Schoolcraft counties, the winter weather advisory will expire at 4 a.m. Thursday. The region is also expected to experience snow and gusty winds, contributing to potential travel disruptions.

Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out and remain vigilant for changing weather patterns throughout the night.
