Gaylord, Mich. – Northern Michigan residents should prepare for a patchy frost and a brief mix of rain and snow early Tuesday, especially in areas near Houghton Lake and Roscommon County.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, areas west of Alger could see a wintry mix between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures hovering just above freezing. Patchy frost is expected before 5 a.m., and winds may gust up to 25 mph, reducing visibility on rural roads.
The chance of precipitation remains low at 20%, but any frozen mix could still make for slick spots on early commutes, particularly on untreated stretches of M-55 and local backroads. The rest of Tuesday will see clearing clouds and a high near 53°F, with rain chances rising again late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Residents should cover sensitive plants and avoid leaving vehicles parked outside overnight. If you’re heading out early, allow extra time and check road conditions.
Rain chances continue through Thursday, with highs bouncing between the low 50s and upper 50s. Another frost risk could return by Friday if skies clear overnight.
