Gaylord, Mich. – Rain and chilly temperatures are making for a dreary Friday across Northern Michigan, especially north of the Mackinac Bridge, where showers and thick cloud cover are expected to linger into early Saturday. Roads may stay wet and slick in the Upper Peninsula and tip of the mitt, including areas around Sault Ste. Marie, Petoskey, and Gaylord.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, light rain will taper off by Saturday afternoon as high pressure builds in, clearing skies in time for a quiet and milder Sunday. Highs Friday will hover in the 40s across most of the region, with areas like Grayling and Traverse City expected to reach the upper 50s by Sunday.
Cities including Alpena, Cadillac, and Houghton Lake will see off-and-on showers through early Saturday, with rainfall amounts staying below a quarter inch. Residents are advised to allow extra travel time on wet roads and keep umbrellas handy through early Saturday.
Looking ahead, a more active system is expected to develop in the Plains and push into the Great Lakes by late Monday, bringing the potential for more widespread weather changes. Stay tuned for additional updates through the weekend.
