Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across Northern Michigan until 5 p.m. Sunday, as snow, ice, and strong winds impact the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, areas including Emmet, Cheboygan, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Chippewa, Mackinac, Charlevoix, Manistee, Wexford, and Missaukee counties can expect mixed precipitation transitioning into snow. Accumulations will range from 2 to 6 inches, with localized higher amounts possible. A light glaze of ice is also expected, making travel hazardous.

Winds gusting up to 40 mph in some areas will further reduce visibility and increase the risk of drifting snow. In Manistee, Wexford, and Missaukee counties, slightly lower snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 30 mph.

Drivers should plan for slippery roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Authorities urge motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling.

The winter system is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, with improving conditions into Monday. However, lingering slick spots may persist into the morning commute.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and allow extra travel time if heading out. For the latest road conditions, check the Michigan Department of Transportation website or local news sources.
