Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is bracing for significant snowfall as a winter storm continues to bring lake effect snow into Friday. Up to 18 inches of additional snow is possible in areas including Gaylord, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties, creating treacherous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the storm will intensify overnight, with snow accumulation reaching 1–3 inches per hour at times. Gusty winds of 25–35 mph will combine with the heavy snow to produce whiteout conditions, particularly along major roadways such as US-31 and M-32. Visibility will be near zero during peak snowfall, making travel extremely hazardous.

The winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday, affecting Cheboygan, Emmet, Crawford, and Otsego counties. Residents are advised to avoid nonessential travel and ensure emergency supplies, including flashlights and blankets, are in vehicles if driving is unavoidable.
