Caribou, Maine – Northern Maine residents should prepare for a wet start to the weekend as showers and thunderstorms move into the region late Saturday, with drier weather expected to return early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered showers are likely during the day Saturday, followed by a stronger round of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Heavy rainfall is possible, with precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch. Rain continues overnight before tapering off by early Sunday morning.

Caribou, Presque Isle, and surrounding towns could see gusty winds Saturday evening, with temperatures dropping into the low 50s overnight. Travel may be slowed by slick roads, and residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities during the storm window.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s before skies clear by Monday. The start of the workweek looks much brighter, with sunshine and highs in the mid-to-upper 60s through Wednesday.

Rain chances return late next week, but for now, the region will see several days of calmer, dry weather once storms move out.
