Caribou, ME – Northern Maine is in for another winter punch tonight as light snow and bitter cold sweep across the region, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou. Up to a few inches of snow are expected mainly south of the Katahdin region, with the highest totals likely closer to the coast.

Forecasters said the snow should taper off by the Monday morning commute, though slick road conditions are likely. Some blowing snow could also reduce visibility overnight, especially in open areas and along rural highways.

The coldest air of the week arrives Monday, with temperatures dropping into the single digits across far northern Maine and teens elsewhere. Wind chills are expected to make it feel 10 to 20 degrees below zero, prompting warnings for frostbite and hypothermia risks.

Residents are urged to dress in layers and cover exposed skin if spending time outdoors. Winds will remain gusty through Tuesday before moderating midweek, when slightly milder temperatures are forecast.
