Caribou, Maine – Spotty showers and chilly May temperatures are keeping much of Maine under cloud cover Tuesday, with high temperatures struggling to reach the mid-50s across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, drier air will push in from the northeast by midday, allowing for brief breaks of sunshine—especially in central areas like Bangor and Millinocket. Still, most of the region will remain cloudy and unseasonably cool throughout the afternoon. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 30s in northern towns like Fort Kent and Houlton, with low 40s expected along the Downeast coast.

Wednesday will see some improvement, with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 50s. Thursday brings slightly warmer air, especially in central and southern zones, where temperatures could approach 60°F. A developing coastal storm will move up from the Mid-Atlantic Thursday night, bringing another round of widespread rain into Maine by Friday.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the end-of-week storm by securing outdoor items and monitoring local updates, especially for flood-prone areas.

Rain remains likely into Friday, with more updates expected midweek.
