CARIBOU, Maine – Record-breaking warmth will grip northern Maine through Tuesday, with sunshine and a steady southwest breeze pushing inland highs into the mid-80s — nearly 25 degrees above normal for early October.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, tonight will remain balmy under a bright harvest moon, with lows in the 50s. Tuesday will stay unseasonably warm before clouds increase ahead of a strong cold front expected to arrive late Tuesday night.
Rainfall totals between three-quarters of an inch and one inch are forecast across Aroostook, Penobscot, and Piscataquis counties, bringing a soaking rain through early Wednesday morning. Winds will shift northwest as cooler air sweeps in, dropping daytime highs Wednesday into the 50s north and low 60s south.
By Thursday, much of Maine will feel the season’s first true autumn chill, with highs struggling to reach the upper 50s under blustery sunshine.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for wet commutes Wednesday morning. Skies will clear by Friday with more seasonable temperatures expected into the weekend.
