Caribou, ME – Northern Maine will see a brief storm chance Sunday before an intense stretch of heat arrives early next week. Isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop between late morning and midafternoon Sunday, with temperatures pushing into the upper 80s and a heat index approaching 91.

According to the National Weather Service, the thunder threat will be short-lived, giving way to clear skies and rising heat Monday and Tuesday, when highs could reach 93°F. Winds will be light, from the south to southwest at 5 to 9 mph, keeping humidity elevated. Outdoor workers and event organizers are urged to plan for shade, hydration, and limited strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.

The heat will be most intense Monday and Tuesday, before a slight cooling trend arrives midweek along with renewed shower chances. Nighttime lows in the upper 60s will offer little relief, making it important for residents without air conditioning to seek cooler spaces.

While Sunday’s storm risk is limited to 20% coverage, any cells that form could bring brief downpours and lightning. Updates are expected as next week’s heat builds, with potential advisories for high temperatures.
