Caribou, ME – Dangerous heat will grip northern Maine through Tuesday, with temperatures in Caribou expected to hit 94°F and a heat index pushing 97°F. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure could be hazardous, especially for vulnerable groups, as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, Monday will see highs near 95°F before slightly easing overnight. Tuesday’s heat will build again, fueled by calm winds and strong sun. The advisory covers most of Aroostook County, where rural residents may be at increased risk due to limited access to cooling centers.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and seek shade or air conditioning during peak heat hours between noon and 5 p.m. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks, and pet owners are reminded to provide plenty of water and avoid hot pavement walks.

While Tuesday remains the most dangerous day, conditions will shift midweek as showers and thunderstorms bring relief Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler overnight lows in the 40s are expected by late week.
