Caribou, ME – Travelers across Northern Maine should prepare for a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain beginning Wednesday as a coastal storm lifts into New England, according to new forecast maps from the Weather Prediction Center.
According to the WPC, precipitation will move into the region early Wednesday, spreading across Aroostook County, the St. John Valley, Houlton, Limestone, Presque Isle, Madawaska, Fort Kent, and the Allagash. With temperatures hovering near freezing, the storm is expected to bring a combination of wet snow and mixed precipitation, creating slick roads along Routes 1, 11, and 161. Snowfall intensity will depend on how quickly colder air wraps around the system.
By Wednesday evening into Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025), colder air deepens across far northern Maine. This shift is expected to change lingering mixed precipitation to mostly light snow, especially north of Caribou and into the St. John Valley. Accumulations appear modest at this stage but could still produce slippery conditions for early-morning travelers and those heading to holiday gatherings.
Black Friday (November 28, 2025) will turn colder and breezy across the region as the storm pulls away. Light snow showers remain possible—particularly at higher elevations in the North Maine Woods—but most of the day will feature dry but chilly conditions, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and wind chills running colder.
Drivers should monitor updated forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions Wednesday, especially in areas where temperatures drop quickly enough for snow and icy spots to form.
