CARIBOU, ME – The National Weather Service in Caribou says widespread rain and gusty winds are set to impact northern and eastern Maine from Thursday night through Friday, with breezy and cooler conditions lasting into the weekend.
Rain will move from south to north after midnight Thursday, continuing through Friday morning before tapering off Downeast by afternoon. Forecast rainfall totals range from 1 to 1.5 inches, with temperatures reaching the low to mid-50s Friday afternoon.
Behind the rain, strong west winds will develop Friday night through Saturday, with gusts reaching 35 mph across much of the region and up to 45 mph over higher terrain in Southern Piscataquis County.
The weekend will remain partly cloudy and cool, with highs in the 40s north and low 50s Downeast. A few lingering showers are possible Sunday and Monday, particularly across northern Maine.
Drivers and outdoor workers are urged to use caution, especially in open and elevated areas, where wind gusts could make travel difficult and bring down small branches.
