Caribou, Maine – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across northern Maine this afternoon, with the highest impacts for the Crown of Maine and areas near Bangor. While a total washout isn’t likely, drivers and outdoor enthusiasts should plan for passing downpours and possible afternoon thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, isolated storms could reach the Bangor region before clearing skies bring more sunshine late Friday. Downeast communities will see a drier day, with patchy fog clearing after sunrise and warm highs in the mid-70s. Afternoon showers may develop near Moosehead Lake Saturday, while most of the state stays warm and partly sunny.
Travelers should watch for reduced visibility from early morning fog, especially in central and northern valleys. By late Sunday, another round of widespread showers and thunderstorms will target the North Woods and Saint John Valley, with stormier conditions likely for northern and western Maine into Monday.
For safety, Mainers are advised to keep an umbrella handy, avoid flooded backroads, and check weather updates before weekend travel. If camping or hiking, seek shelter during thunderstorms and stay alert for changing skies.
The next round of severe weather is expected Sunday night into Monday, with additional advisories possible for the north and west.
