Caribou, ME – Northern Maine will see warmer-than-usual September temperatures today before clouds and rain showers arrive late tonight into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou.
Forecasters say a warm southerly flow will lift afternoon highs into the upper 60s and lower 70s across much of the state on Monday. Overnight lows are expected to remain mild, hovering in the mid-50s, as a cold front approaches from the west.
According to the NWS, rain showers will begin developing Monday evening and continue into Tuesday. However, rainfall totals are expected to remain light—generally under a quarter of an inch across most locations. While the precipitation will dampen commutes and outdoor plans, meteorologists noted it will not be enough to significantly ease ongoing drought conditions in Maine.
Areas including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, and Bangor may see light rain accumulations overnight, with the heaviest totals projected Tuesday morning into the afternoon. Rainfall is expected to taper off by Tuesday night, giving way to drier conditions midweek.
Residents are advised to plan for damp roads during Tuesday morning and evening commutes. The NWS emphasizes that while the showers bring some relief, additional rainfall will be needed in the coming weeks to reduce drought concerns across northern and eastern Maine.
