Bennington, VT — A late-night wintry mix is expected to sweep across southern Vermont and western Massachusetts, creating hazardous travel conditions during the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. EDT Monday for areas including Bennington and Windham counties in Vermont and Berkshire County in Massachusetts. The advisory also extends to portions of northwestern Connecticut and eastern New York.
Forecasters predict up to 3 inches of snow and sleet, along with a light glaze of ice. The mixed precipitation could cause slippery roads, especially on untreated surfaces and secondary routes. Commuters are advised to plan for delays and exercise caution during the morning hours.
Temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing mark, heightening the risk of ice accumulation on bridges and overpasses. The snowfall and ice event is relatively short-lived but timed to disrupt the busiest travel window of the day.
Motorists should reduce speed and allow extra distance when braking. Residents are also encouraged to monitor local forecasts and check transportation updates before heading out. Road crews are expected to begin pretreatment Sunday evening in higher elevation zones most at risk for slick conditions.
