Louisville, Kentucky – Another round of snow will move across the Louisville region this evening, creating slick roads and hazardous travel before colder air settles in overnight and into Sunday.
Snow is expected to develop late this afternoon and evening, with the heaviest accumulation window between 5 p.m. and 1 a.m. EST. Most areas along and north of I-64, including Louisville, Frankfort, Madison, and portions of southern Indiana, can expect 1 to 2 inches of snow. Farther north toward I-71, isolated pockets could see 2 to 3 inches, especially where snow bands linger longer.
According to the National Weather Service office in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Sunday. Snow should taper from west to east late tonight into early Sunday morning, but untreated roads may remain slick through the morning hours. Bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads are expected to be the most hazardous.
Travel impacts will be highest this evening and overnight, especially during the peak accumulation window. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roads could make driving difficult at times on I-64, I-65, I-71, and surrounding state routes. Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra stopping distance.
Behind the snow, colder air will move in late tonight. Temperatures will drop sharply toward dawn Sunday, allowing any remaining moisture on roads to refreeze. Wind chills will fall into the teens, making conditions feel colder during the early morning hours.
Confidence in snowfall totals remains medium, as small shifts in snow band placement could cause localized higher amounts. Residents should monitor conditions closely through the evening.
Conditions will gradually improve later Sunday morning as snow ends, but cold weather will persist into the day.
