Covington, Kentucky – Strong storms advancing out of Ohio could bring damaging winds and hail into northern Kentucky this evening, with impacts expected to increase through midnight.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 73 remains in effect until 12 a.m. for Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties. This includes key communities such as Covington, Florence, and Newport, all positioned along the Ohio River and directly in the path of incoming storms.
Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph in stronger storms, capable of knocking down tree limbs and causing scattered power outages. Brief hail is also possible, particularly in early storm development before a more organized line moves through.
Travel along I-75, I-71, and I-275 may become hazardous due to sudden heavy rain, reduced visibility, and debris on roadways during the late evening hours.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. The storm threat will persist until midnight, with additional warnings likely as storms intensify and move through the region.
