Topeka, Kansas – Snow and dangerous cold are combining to create ongoing travel hazards across much of northern and western Kansas, with slick roads expected to persist through Sunday evening in several areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Sunday evening for Republic, Washington, Marshall, Nemaha, and Brown counties, where total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected. Communities including Marysville, Washington, Seneca, Hiawatha, Sabetha, and Blue Rapids could see snow-covered roads linger well into Sunday as temperatures remain cold enough to prevent melting.

Farther west, the National Weather Service in Goodland reports Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through Saturday night for much of northwest and west-central Kansas. Snow totals there range from 1 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts of up to 5 inches in Graham and Gove counties. Periods of light to occasionally moderate snow are expected through the afternoon, impacting travel along Interstate 70 near Colby, Oakley, Goodland, Hoxie, Hill City, and Quinter.

While winds are expected to stay light, bitter cold will be a major concern. Afternoon temperatures may struggle to rise out of the single digits, with subzero readings and dangerous wind chills likely during the mornings. These conditions will keep roads icy, especially bridges, overpasses, and rural highways.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, and allow extra stopping distance. Road conditions can be checked by calling 511. Advisories remain in effect through Sunday, and additional alerts are possible if snowfall or travel conditions worsen.
