Des Moines, IA – A Wind Advisory has been issued for northern and north-central Iowa on Tuesday, with strong northwest winds expected to impact travel and possibly cause isolated power outages, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday, covering counties including Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Palo Alto, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright, Franklin, Butler, Bremer, Grundy, and Black Hawk. Cities in the advisory area include Waterloo, Mason City, Algona, and Forest City.
Forecasters expect sustained northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph possible during the afternoon. The NWS warns that the winds may blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause brief power disruptions.
Travel may be difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly on east-west highways. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid burning, and use extra caution while driving.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken by Tuesday evening as the cold front moves out of the state.
