ROCHESTER, Ind. – Snow is set to spread across north-central Indiana today, coating roads and fields as the season’s next lake-effect surge builds in from the northwest. The steady accumulation will create slick conditions for drivers and complicate travel through Monday as temperatures remain below freezing.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for Pulaski and Fulton Counties. Forecasters expect 2 to 5 inches of snow, most of it falling in waves through Sunday night and Monday morning. Light winds early will increase as colder air deepens, keeping snow drifting on untreated roads.
Motorists along U.S. 31, State Road 14, and U.S. 35 should expect slippery conditions and reduced visibility, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. The advisory highlights that while totals will be less than areas under a full warning farther north, travel impacts will still be significant in rural stretches and open farmland.
Residents are urged to drive cautiously, allow extra braking distance, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Even a few inches of snow can cause spinouts when temperatures hover near freezing. The storm marks another step deeper into the Great Lakes winter pattern, with additional flurries possible midweek as cold air lingers.
