South Bend, IN – The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has extended a Winter Storm Warning for portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan through 7 p.m. EST Sunday, as lake-enhanced snow showers continue to create slick and hazardous travel conditions.

According to forecasters, an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected in affected areas, including Elkhart, LaGrange, La Porte, and St. Joseph Counties in Indiana, and Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph Counties in Michigan.

Winds gusting up to 35 mph will lead to patchy blowing and drifting snow, particularly in open or rural areas, reducing visibility and complicating road travel. Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra time, and carry emergency supplies in case of delays.

Road crews continue to treat highways and secondary routes, but forecasters warn conditions may worsen through late afternoon before tapering off tonight. The storm is expected to move east by early evening.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. CST) Sunday for all impacted counties.
