Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana will see unusually warm and dry conditions this week, with the National Weather Service warning of near-record temperatures and no rain expected for at least the next seven days.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, highs Sunday and Monday will reach the mid to upper 80s, with slightly cooler readings in the mid-70s to near 80 degrees along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the low to mid-50s.
Forecasters note that Tuesday will continue the trend, with highs around 79 to 84 degrees, before gradually cooling into the low 70s by midweek. Despite the shift, conditions will stay dry, with precipitation chances at zero percent through Thursday, October 2.
The service emphasized that these temperatures are running 10 to 20 degrees above normal for late September and early October. The extended stretch of warmth, combined with a lack of rainfall, is expected to worsen ongoing drought concerns in parts of Indiana.
Residents across Fort Wayne, South Bend, and surrounding counties are advised to limit outdoor burning and conserve water where possible, as dry vegetation increases fire risks. Those living near Lake Michigan will notice slightly milder afternoon highs but still warmer-than-normal weather.
