South Bend, Indiana – Drivers across northern Indiana may notice changing road conditions over the next 24 hours as rising temperatures and increasing moisture bring fog tonight followed by rain showers on Tuesday, especially in areas along and north of US 30.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, cloud cover will continue to increase today with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid 30s to mid 40s, keeping most areas above freezing. After an initial dip this evening, temperatures are expected to rise overnight, creating favorable conditions for fog development. Patches of fog could reduce visibility late tonight into early Tuesday, particularly in low-lying and rural areas.

Rain showers are expected to develop on Tuesday as milder air settles in, with a 30 to 70 percent chance of rainfall across the region. The greatest coverage is expected north of US 30, impacting communities such as South Bend, Elkhart, Plymouth, and Angola. Wet roads combined with lingering fog could create slower travel during the morning commute.

Conditions begin to improve by Wednesday as clouds gradually decrease and highs climb into the 40s and near 50. Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights in fog, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for rapidly changing visibility.

Additional updates may be issued if fog becomes more widespread or rain coverage increases into midweek.
