Northern Indiana – Light snow showers and gusty winds will continue across Northern Indiana this afternoon before tapering off this evening, setting the stage for a quieter but changing weather pattern heading into Christmas week.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, scattered light snow showers will gradually diminish later today as winds ease. While snowfall amounts remain minor, brief slick spots are possible on untreated roads, especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
Tonight will turn partly cloudy and cold, with overnight lows dropping into the upper teens to near 20 degrees across much of the region, including Fort Wayne, South Bend, Warsaw, and surrounding communities.
Saturday brings a milder but still cool day, with highs ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s under partly sunny skies. Temperatures dip again Sunday, with highs struggling to reach the upper 20s to low 30s, reinforcing a brief return to winter-like conditions.
The pattern shifts Monday as showers move back into the region, with highs climbing into the mid-30s to low 40s. While precipitation type may vary at times, significant accumulation is not expected.
By Tuesday and beyond, a strong warm-up develops. High temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid-40s to near 50 degrees, with even warmer conditions possible by mid to late week. Forecasters note temperatures will run well above normal, a notable change for late December.
Most of the upcoming period is expected to remain mostly dry, making travel conditions generally favorable after tonight’s snow showers end.
Residents are encouraged to remain cautious during colder overnight hours and stay updated as temperatures fluctuate through the weekend and into the holiday week.
