South Bend, Ind. – Northern Indiana residents will enjoy one last warm stretch today with highs around 80 before a dramatic weather shift arrives midweek. A strong cold front moving in Wednesday night is expected to drop widespread rainfall across the region and usher in much cooler air by Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, rain totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible late Wednesday into early Thursday. The system will also bring sharply lower temperatures, with highs falling into the 60s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s by the weekend.

The cool stretch is expected to linger through the weekend, bringing the first real taste of fall to the region. Additional advisories may be issued as rainfall totals become clearer.
