South Bend, Indiana – Northern Indiana is expected to see a relatively quiet stretch of winter weather next week, with limited chances for snow or rain and no strong signal for widespread travel disruptions from Monday through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, northern Indiana falls within a below-normal precipitation zone during the January 12–16 period. Temperatures are projected to trend above seasonal averages at times, which should limit snow potential and reduce the frequency of lake-effect activity off Lake Michigan.

Communities including South Bend, Elkhart, Goshen, and Fort Wayne may see extended dry periods with only isolated, low-impact snow showers or brief rain-snow mixes. Lake-effect snow appears limited, though a few flurries cannot be ruled out near the Indiana–Michigan line during brief northwest wind shifts. Major corridors such as the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90), I-69, and U.S. 31 are not expected to experience prolonged winter weather issues.

The Indiana Department of Transportation typically reminds drivers that overnight temperature drops can still create isolated slick spots on bridges and overpasses, particularly during early morning hours. Motorists should remain alert despite the quieter pattern.

The drier trend looks likely to persist through much of the workweek, though minor disturbances remain possible. Overall, widespread winter weather impacts across northern Indiana appear unlikely through Friday.
