South Bend, Ind. – Thunderstorms are pushing into northern Indiana this morning, bringing a marginal risk for severe weather across communities west of U.S. 31. While the storm line is expected to weaken as it moves east, damaging wind gusts remain possible through mid-afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, storms will be most active between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., especially near South Bend, La Porte, and Plymouth. The primary concern is isolated strong wind gusts, though forecasters note the overall severe threat is low.
Farther east, along I-69 and into Fort Wayne, a drier environment should limit storm development. Only a 20 percent chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm exists for those areas.
Travelers along U.S. 31 should use caution, especially if winds pick up. Loose outdoor items should be secured, and those in mobile homes are advised to stay weather-aware through the afternoon.
Storm chances will diminish by this evening, but the Weather Service cautions that additional advisories could be issued if conditions shift.
