Fort Wayne, IN – Very warm and dry conditions are expected to continue across Northern Indiana this weekend, with the National Weather Service warning that Sunday’s breezy weather could raise the risk of fire.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, highs will remain in the mid-to-upper 80s Friday through Sunday. Forecasts call for clear skies and warm afternoons, with temperatures ranging from 84 to 87 degrees Friday and Saturday, and slightly cooler highs of 83 to 86 degrees on Sunday.

The weather service cautioned that Sunday could bring the most concern. Winds are expected to increase, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 miles per hour in cities including South Bend, Michigan City, and Warsaw. Combined with dry ground conditions, these breezy winds may elevate fire danger, especially in rural and open field areas.

“Dry and breezy conditions Sunday may lead to an elevated fire risk,” the NWS stated in its Friday morning outlook. Communities across Allen, St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaPorte, and surrounding counties are urged to remain cautious and avoid outdoor burning.

Travelers and residents should also be prepared for shifting winds that could make driving more difficult on open stretches of highways.

The warm pattern is expected to hold into early next week before temperatures gradually trend downward.
