SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A Frost Advisory goes into effect early Friday from 2 to 9 a.m. EDT for areas east of U.S. 31, as overnight lows dip into the mid to upper 30s, bringing the first widespread frost threat of the season. The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana urges residents to cover or bring in sensitive plants and prepare for a chilly morning commute.

According to the NWS Northern Indiana office, locations near Lake Michigan should remain a few degrees warmer, staying closer to 40°F and avoiding frost formation. Farther inland, frost is most likely across northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and southwest Lower Michigan, including Elkhart, Angola, and Defiance.

Dry weather will dominate through most of the next five days, but a 20–30% chance of light rain arrives north of the Indiana Toll Road Friday night into Saturday. Rainfall totals will stay minimal—generally under 0.10 inches—before skies clear again by Sunday.

The weekend marks a gradual warming trend, with highs climbing from the 60s Friday and Saturday into the lower 70s by early next week. Breezy conditions Monday could make for cooler mornings but mild afternoons. Residents should expect chilly early mornings and take precautions to protect plants, pipes, and pets from frost exposure overnight.
