Fort Wayne, Indiana – Indiana residents should brace for dangerously high heat indices reaching up to 106°F from Saturday through Tuesday, with the most oppressive conditions expected Sunday and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, an Excessive Heat Watch is in effect as temperatures soar into the 90s and humidity levels push heat indices into triple digits. Overnight lows in the 70s will offer little relief, increasing the risk for heat-related illnesses—especially for children, seniors, and those without air conditioning.

Major cities including Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Elkhart can expect daytime highs between 92°F and 96°F, with humidity making it feel significantly hotter. Power grids may see increased strain as cooling demand rises, and schools or outdoor activities may adjust hours or cancel events.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may open if conditions worsen.

The heat watch remains in effect through Tuesday, and updated warnings could be issued if forecast conditions intensify.
