South Bend, Indiana – Evening thunderstorm chances are winding down across northern Indiana, with a noticeably cooler and drier air mass set to take hold through the remainder of the workweek and into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, any stronger thunderstorms will continue to weaken this evening, although a few spotty showers cannot be ruled out tonight, especially west of Interstate 15. Overnight temperatures will fall into the 53 to 59 degree range as lower humidity begins moving into the region.
Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions with afternoon highs between 70 and 74 degrees, several degrees below normal for late July. The pleasant stretch continues Thursday with highs of 75 to 77 degrees and overnight lows cooling into the 49 to 53 degree range, making for crisp mornings across much of northern Indiana.
While the weather becomes more favorable for outdoor activities, the National Weather Service continues to warn of a high swim risk along Lake Michigan beaches. Dangerous currents remain possible, and swimmers should heed posted beach flags, follow lifeguard instructions and stay out of the water where conditions are hazardous.
The cooler, drier pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, providing a break from recent heat and humidity. Forecasters will continue to monitor any changes, but no widespread hazardous weather is anticipated after tonight.
