South Bend, Ind. – Northern Indiana residents can expect one more day of comfortable summer weather before a surge of heat and humidity arrives this weekend. Sunshine and low humidity will keep conditions pleasant today, with afternoon highs ranging from 81 to 86 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, heat and moisture will build rapidly beginning Saturday, pushing heat indices into the mid to upper 90s and possibly over 100 degrees in some areas. The combination of high temperatures and rising humidity could prompt heat advisories by the weekend, especially for urban areas and locations with limited shade.
Saturday through Monday will bring highs in the upper 80s to near 90, with humid nights in the upper 60s to low 70s. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon heat, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
The National Weather Service advises that the most intense heat is expected Sunday, when heat indices may reach 105 degrees in parts of the region. Additional advisories are possible early next week if hot and humid conditions persist.
