Fort Wayne, IN – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana is warning residents of scattered thunderstorms expected to begin around 3 p.m. today (Saturday, October 18), mainly north of the U.S. 24 corridor. Forecasters say storms will continue through the evening and into early Sunday morning, bringing the risk of heavy rain and damaging winds.

According to the NWS update, two rounds of storms are expected:

  • Round 1: 3–8 p.m. EDT — scattered storms mainly north of U.S. 24.
  • Round 2: 9 p.m.–3 a.m. EDT Sunday — heavier rain and embedded storms likely along and south of U.S. 24.

The weather service says isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph could occur, and while a tornado can’t be ruled out, heavy rainfall over 2 inches is the primary concern, especially near and south of I-69.

Officials urge residents to stay alert and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings overnight. “Make sure your safe place is accessible,” the NWS advised, reminding residents that conditions may worsen quickly after sunset.
