Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana residents should brace for potentially dangerous thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening, with the threat of damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes spanning from Fort Wayne to South Bend.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the region—along with southwest Lower Michigan and northwest Ohio—under a 15–29% risk zone for severe weather on May 15. The outlook now includes the entire forecast area, and while forecasters emphasize considerable uncertainty around storm timing and intensity, all severe weather hazards remain on the table.
Cities including Elkhart, Plymouth, Angola, and Warsaw are in the path of potential severe activity. Storms are most likely to fire during the late afternoon and continue through the evening hours, fueled by increasingly hot and humid air. Daytime highs Thursday could climb to the upper 80s, adding to the atmospheric instability.
Residents are urged to make shelter plans now and monitor updates, especially if traveling. Charge phones and secure loose outdoor items ahead of time. With changing conditions expected, updated warnings or watches could be issued Thursday morning.
Severe weather watches remain possible into Thursday evening as forecasters track evolving storm development.
