Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana is preparing for a series of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall through Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Watch for parts of northwest Indiana and southwest Lower Michigan due to the potential for significant rainfall and recent heavy rainfall saturating the ground.

According to the NWS, the storms are expected to begin late Sunday evening, primarily west of US Route 31, and continue through Monday night. The storms may bring isolated severe weather late tonight into early Monday morning. Wind gusts of 70 to 75 mph and localized heavy rainfall are possible.

Late Monday afternoon and Monday night could see more severe weather, with a heightened risk for strong to severe thunderstorms. These storms are likely to produce heavy rain, further exacerbating flooding risks in areas already affected by recent rainfall.
