Fort Wayne, IN – The northern lights could shine over Indiana once again tonight, as another round of strong geomagnetic activity combines with mostly clear skies across the region.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana and the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, conditions remain favorable for G3–G4-level aurora activity, which could make the lights visible as far south as northern and central Indiana.
Forecasters say skies will stay mostly clear through the evening, allowing for ideal viewing conditions before clouds increase after midnight. Temperatures will dip into the 30s inland and low 40s near Lake Michigan, creating crisp, cool weather perfect for stargazing.
For the best chance to see the aurora, residents should head outside between 9 p.m. and midnight and look toward the northern horizon in areas away from city lights. Faint glows of green, pink, or red may be visible if the storm remains strong.
Did you capture photos of the aurora earlier this week? Share your images and where you saw them — tonight could be another unforgettable light show across the Hoosier sky.
