Fort Wayne, Indiana – Humidity soared to historic levels across northern Indiana this July, making it the second most humid July ever recorded for both Fort Wayne and South Bend. Drivers, residents, and anyone spending time outdoors felt the persistent dampness, with sticky days and warm, muggy nights becoming the norm across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Fort Wayne’s average July dewpoint hit 67.53°, topping every July since 1993, when the city set its all-time high. In South Bend, the average dewpoint reached 66.41°, the most humid since 2020, falling just short of the 1955 record. Dewpoint data for these cities stretch back nearly a century, underscoring how unusual this month has been.

Local roads and highways saw heat haze lingering into the evenings, and utility crews fielded higher calls as air conditioners worked overtime. The persistent humidity also made it tougher for the region’s farmers to manage crops, with some reporting slow drying times and increased disease pressure. Residents are urged to continue hydrating, limit strenuous activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Expect muggy conditions to persist into early August. Additional advisories or air quality alerts may follow if the pattern holds.
