South Bend, Indiana – Cold air lingers across northern Indiana today with a chance for flurries, but a notable warm-up is set to begin Monday, pushing temperatures above freezing and well above normal by the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, highs today and Sunday will remain in the upper 20s to near 32 degrees, with lows dipping into the teens and lower 20s. A few flurries are possible today, but no meaningful accumulation is expected, keeping impacts limited to occasional slick spots on untreated roads.
Conditions begin to shift Monday as milder air moves into the region. Afternoon highs are expected to climb above freezing, marking the start of a warming trend that is forecast to persist into next weekend. By midweek, temperatures will run well above seasonal averages, with highs reaching the 50s by Thursday and Friday. Normal highs for early January are closer to the low 30s.
The warmer pattern may also bring rain chances late in the week. Forecasters note a 30 to 60 percent chance for rain from Thursday afternoon through Friday, which could help melt lingering snow and ice but may lead to wet roads during commutes.
Residents should remain cautious during the colder mornings early in the week, as refreezing is still possible. The extended warm pattern looks to hold, though updates are expected as late-week rain chances become clearer.
