South Bend, IN – The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana is warning residents to prepare for additional lake effect snow tonight, with 2 to 5 inches of accumulation expected in parts of northern Indiana.

Forecasters say the heaviest snow bands are likely to develop late Monday evening through early Tuesday, potentially leading to locally higher totals and reduced visibility during the morning commute. Snow will taper off after daybreak Tuesday, but slick and snow-covered roads will make travel hazardous.

Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across portions of LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and LaGrange counties, where snowfall rates may briefly exceed 1 inch per hour. Winds will also increase overnight, causing some blowing and drifting snow in open areas.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually after Tuesday afternoon, with a warming trend midweek. Highs will rise into the upper 40s Thursday and reach the low to mid-50s by Friday, bringing a break from the early-season chill.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time Tuesday morning and keep an emergency kit in vehicles in case of delays.
