Indiana – Light snow sweeps across parking lots and open fields this morning, blurring lane lines and dulling pavement across northern Indiana. Gusty winds whip loose flakes into brief white curtains, and roads that looked manageable moments ago can turn slick fast. Winter conditions are developing quickly, and travel could worsen with little notice.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, snow showers will occur at times today and again this evening. Accumulations between 1 and 3 inches are expected, with the highest totals north of U.S. 6. Winds gust between 20 and 30 mph, producing blowing and drifting snow and reducing visibility during heavier bursts.

In Fort Wayne, drivers on I-69, I-469, and U.S. 30 should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions. Convective snow showers may briefly intensify this afternoon, which could disrupt the evening commute. Slick pavement and patchy blowing snow will make braking distances longer.

Snow chances linger into Saturday and periodically into early next week, especially across far northern Indiana where lake enhancement is possible. Accumulations remain light at times, but repeated rounds keep roads from fully improving. Even minor snowfall becomes impactful with cold pavement temperatures.

The cold tightens its grip by Sunday and into MLK Day. Daytime highs struggle in the teens, while overnight lows drop near zero. Wind chills may approach 15 degrees below zero Monday night into Tuesday morning, increasing risks for frostbite and vehicle issues.

Residents should plan ahead now. Slow down on snow-covered roads, keep emergency supplies in vehicles, and limit exposure during extreme cold. Winter weather continues to assert control across the region heading into the holiday.
