Valparaiso, IN – The Valparaiso Police Department has announced a full closure of eastbound U.S. Highway 30 between Washington Street and Sturdy Road due to dangerous winter storm conditions late Sunday night.
Police report that numerous vehicles have slid off the roadway, and travel through the area is currently impossible. Drivers are being urged to avoid travel and stay home until conditions improve.
“Our officers and road crews are working hard to keep everyone safe and clear the affected areas,” the department said in a statement. “Please use caution, stay home if you can, and stay safe.”
The closure will remain in effect until further notice as crews work to clear snow and ice from the highway and assist stranded motorists. Authorities are also reminding residents that visibility and traction remain poor across much of Porter County due to ongoing snowfall.
