Marion, IN – A 57-year-old Marion woman died following a four-vehicle crash on State Road 9 in Grant County Saturday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened around 8:46 p.m. September 13 on the north side of Marion at State Road 9 and Meridian Street. Deputies said multiple vehicles were involved, with at least one person trapped inside.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not been released pending notification of family by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Several others were transported to Marion Health for treatment.

Investigators said three vehicles were traveling southbound on State Road 9 and one was heading north when the collision occurred. A southbound vehicle reportedly slowed or stopped to turn left onto Meridian Street and was rear-ended, sending it into the path of the northbound car. That impact caused the vehicle to spin again into another southbound car.

The crash involved a 2012 Chrysler van, 2014 Chevrolet auto, 2006 Buick auto, and a 2010 Ford SUV.

First responders included Marion Police Department, Grant County EMS, Marion Health medics, multiple township fire departments, and Indiana State Police.

Grant County Sheriff Del Garcia offered condolences, saying the department’s thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and all those injured. The investigation remains ongoing.
