Fort Wayne, Indiana – Scattered thunderstorms could turn severe this afternoon and evening across northern and eastern Indiana, especially east of I-69 between 3 and 9 p.m., potentially impacting travel and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, damaging winds and heavy rain are the primary threats with today’s storms. The area under greatest risk stretches from Fort Wayne to Muncie and east toward Richmond. Residents in this corridor are urged to stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, especially during the late-day commute.
Localized flooding could occur in low-lying areas, while strong gusts may lead to tree damage or power outages. Heat will also be a factor—high humidity combined with air temperatures will push heat indices close to 100°F, particularly along and south of U.S. 24.
If you’re heading out today, have multiple ways to receive warnings. Postpone non-essential travel in high-risk zones and avoid outdoor activity during peak storm hours.
Storm activity is expected to diminish after 9 p.m., but more alerts may be issued if conditions evolve.
