Fort Wayne, IN – A busy stretch of holiday weather is setting up for Northern Indiana as colder air, lake-effect snow, and a weekend system all move through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana office.

According to forecasters, temperatures turn sharply colder Wednesday, with highs in the upper 30s to upper 40s and lows in the low to mid-30s. Stronger winds and colder air filtering across Lake Michigan will develop lake-effect snow showers, mainly north of U.S. 30, continuing into Thanksgiving Day.

On Thanksgiving, breezy conditions persist with highs in the low to mid-30s and lows dipping into the mid-20s. Lake-effect snow remains possible, especially across far northern Indiana and into southwest Michigan, where the heaviest bands are expected.

The pattern remains active on Friday, with highs in the low to mid-30s and lows in the upper teens to mid-20s. Lake-effect snow may linger through the morning before gradually tapering.

By Saturday, another weather system approaches from the west, bringing a renewed chance for snow. Some accumulation is possible, especially early in the day. Highs stay in the 30–35°F range, with nighttime lows in the upper teens to lower 20s.

On Sunday, snow is likely to transition to rain as temperatures climb into the mid-30s to low 40s. Forecasters say some accumulation is possible early before temperatures rise enough to mix precipitation types.

The NWS notes that while the lake-effect snow impacts are most significant north of U.S. 30, the entire region will experience colder temperatures, breezy conditions, and periodic travel impacts—especially Wednesday through Friday.

Residents traveling for the holiday are advised to monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve through the weekend.
