Fort Wayne, Indiana – Strong winds are expected to impact travel and outdoor conditions across northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio on Friday, Jan. 9, as a Wind Advisory remains in effect through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, the Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 9 (5 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST in western areas). West winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.

The advisory covers a broad area including Elkhart, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Warsaw, Plymouth, Marion, Huntington, Wabash, and Peru in Indiana; St. Joseph, Branch, Hillsdale, and Berrien counties in Michigan; and Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert, and Allen counties in Ohio.

Forecasters warn that gusty winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, down tree limbs, and result in isolated power outages. Driving may be difficult at times, especially for high-profile vehicles traveling on exposed roadways.

Winds are expected to strengthen quickly after sunrise on Friday morning, Jan. 9, remain strong through midday, and gradually ease later in the afternoon as the system moves east.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, use caution while driving, and remain alert for falling debris during the advisory period.
