Fort Wayne, Indiana – Scorching temperatures and a heat advisory will grip Northern Indiana Thursday, with all counties expected to feel highs from 91 to 94 degrees and oppressive humidity. The National Weather Service warns residents to take extra precautions as dangerous heat will build throughout the day, peaking west of Highway 31 today and spreading to the entire region Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the current heat advisory expands area-wide Thursday as the Atlantic subtropical ridge pushes hot air into the state. Overnight lows will offer little relief, staying in the mid-70s. A cold front is set to move southeast late Thursday, triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms by Thursday night. Rain chances climb to 60-70% Friday, with highs moderating to the mid-80s.

Cities including South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Warsaw should expect hazardous heat Thursday, making outdoor activities risky for vulnerable groups. The NWS urges residents to stay hydrated, limit time outside, and check on neighbors without air conditioning. If traveling, avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars and consider rescheduling strenuous tasks.

The heat advisory is in effect until Thursday night, with cooler and wetter weather expected Friday. Additional alerts may be issued as thunderstorms approach—stay tuned for updates from local officials and the NWS.
