Fort Wayne, IN – The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana is warning residents to prepare for strong thunderstorms developing late this afternoon and evening, with the best chance for severe weather between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. EDT Saturday.
Forecasters say isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible, mainly along and south of US-24, including areas near Logansport, Marion, and Fort Wayne. A brief tornado can’t be ruled out, though confidence in that threat remains low.
Heavy rainfall is also expected, with localized amounts over 2 inches possible, which could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas. A second, weaker round of storms may occur after midnight through early Sunday morning.
Residents are advised to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid outdoor activities during storms. Conditions are expected to improve by midday Sunday as the system moves east.
