Fort Wayne, Indiana — Lake effect snow delivered significant accumulations across northern Indiana over the past 24 hours, with some communities reporting more than 20 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.

The snowfall summary, issued Thursday morning by the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, shows widespread double-digit snow totals across Allen, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph, and surrounding counties.

Among the highest reported totals, Pine Creek Township in LaPorte County recorded 20.0 inches, while Bourbon in Marshall County measured 15.0 inches. In St. Joseph County, multiple locations reported between 12 and 16 inches, including New Carlisle (13.0 inches) and South Bend (13.6 inches).

In the Fort Wayne area, snowfall ranged from 9 to 11 inches, with reports of 10.8 inches near Georgetown and 10.5 inches near Harlan. Portions of Elkhart County measured 6 to 9 inches, while Allen County locations commonly reported 7 to 10 inches.

Snow totals across northern Indiana generally ranged from 6 to 12 inches, though lake effect bands produced localized higher amounts where persistent snow showers remained stationary for several hours.

The National Weather Service notes that snowfall reports were compiled from trained spotters, emergency managers, COOP observers, and public reports, and totals may vary significantly over short distances.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious as snow-covered roads, drifting, and reduced visibility may persist in areas that received the heaviest accumulations.
