Indianapolis, IN – Hoosiers across Indiana should prepare for a sharp change in weather on Sunday as a colder air mass moves in, bringing a statewide chance for light snow, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service, rain lingering across parts of Indiana late Saturday is expected to taper off overnight as temperatures fall rapidly. By Sunday morning, colder air pushing into the region could allow remaining moisture to mix with or briefly change over to light snow.

While widespread accumulation is not expected, forecasters indicate a 30% to 50% chance of light snow across much of the state, particularly during the morning and early afternoon hours Sunday. High temperatures are forecast to remain near or below freezing, generally ranging from the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Even minor snowfall or flurries could create slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, especially during early travel hours. The risk may be highest in northern and central Indiana, but light snow or snow showers could be observed statewide as the colder air settles in.

Sunday’s colder conditions will feel markedly different from the milder temperatures experienced earlier in the weekend. Wind chills may make it feel even colder, increasing the risk of icy patches lingering into the evening.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions. Residents should also take precautions to protect pets, pipes, and sensitive outdoor items as freezing temperatures return.

The National Weather Service recommends monitoring local forecasts and alerts through Sunday, as small changes in temperature or timing could impact where snow develops.
